The Governing Board has three core functions for its school, as set out in the Governance Handbook (2020) https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/governance-handbook:
* Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
* Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
* Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
The Governing Board’s role is strategic rather than operational in nature; we do not get involved in the day-to-day management of the School as this responsibility lies with the Head Teacher.
The National Governance Association have a good article and clip on becoming a governor:
All Saints’ instrument of governance can be found here.
Our current terms of reference, which outlines key responsibilities, can be found here:
If you have further questions about being involved with governance, please contact the school office (01934 607852 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
