Wildcat Class

Class teacher’s welcome

Welcome to Wildcat class page. We are very excited for the year ahead in Year 6 and have lots of exciting lessons and experiences to look forward to. As parents/carers, you play a vital role in supporting your child’s journey through Year 6. This year is an important milestone for your child’s education, as it marks their final year in primary school before transitioning to secondary school. We hope that you will find this class page useful in supporting your child through this journey.

Both classes created some fantastic Batik artwork today. We think you’ll agree they look absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much, Ms Gilroy for your expertise, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Happy World Book Day! We had lots of fun on the ‘catwalk’ today. A fantastic selection of book characters and some group efforts too. Well done, Year 6.

On Tuesday we celebrated pancake day and had a few races in the playground. There were definitely some team tactics at play to try for the win!

We enjoyed our visit from Jane who, of course, brought along Harold to see us.

Also check out our latest ‘Cups’ music video here (at regular speed) and here (at different speeds) – hope you enjoy!

Spelling

At All Saints’ Primary School, we follow the Read, Write Inc. spelling scheme in Key Stage 2. Children should be encouraged to recognise spelling patterns and apply their learning in everyday life.

Year 6 are also encouraged to learn the year 5/6 statutory spelling words (link to document here).

During Summer 1 we will be continuing to look at the year 5/6 statutory spelling words alongside:

Homophones and near homophones (licence/license, practice, practise, device/devise, advice/advise, too/to/two etc…)

Home learning recommendations

Reading: daily practice with your children
Arithmetic: times table and division facts practice

All children are encouraged to complete a home learning project to build on their classroom knowledge.

Summer 1 Optional projects:

  • Get creative – can you make a collage of Ilkley Moor? Can you include the wonderful wildlife that reside there too?
  • Creative writing – do you ever find living creatures in your house (flies, spiders, mice even)? Write from their perspective. What does your house look like to them? How do they feel when they see you?
  • Get active! If you tried something new, can you continue so it becomes a habit?

How parents/carers could help

  • Read with your child on a regular basis
  • Encourage positive routines
  • Support with home learning projects
  • Develop independence and organisation
  • Help to expand your child’s vocabulary within everyday conversation
