KS1 Sats – Year 2

All year 2 children will be sitting their Sats tests sometime in May. It incorporates maths, reading spelling and grammar. Many of you have asked how you can support your child. Here are some things you can focus on to help.

English – to know nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions and how they are used within different types of sentences. Tenses, punctuation and spelling are also covered.

Maths – addition and subtraction of one digit and two digit numbers, multiplication and division of  2,3,5 and 10 times table, Time to nearest 5 minutes, recognising and properties of 2D and 3D shapes and fractions of shapes and numbers(half, quarter and third). Problem solving using number and money is also covered. Much of this is being covered in their weekly homework – try to let them be as independent as possible.

Phonics Screening

A letter will come out to those pupils taking the phonics screening. The screening will take place in June.

Although it is a time of assessing, we try to ensure it is as stress free as possible for the children and just encourage them to do their best.

Outside area

As you may have noticed, we have some new outdoor equipment for the children to use. Could we please ask you not to let children play with this equipment before and after school. Could we also ask you to vacate the playground as soon as possible at drop off and pick up so that the gates can be securely locked.

Reminder – children need to have a water bottle in school

We look forward to working with you and your child this term.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs K Brown          Miss H Flaherty     Miss L King      Mrs L Quinlan
