STEM Education

What is STEM Education?

STEM Education is education covering the four areas of:

Science

Technology

Engineering

Maths

(In our school design technology is the area through which we promote engineering.)

What is STEM UK?

  • STEM UK is an initiative which aims to promote the teaching of these subjects.
  • STEM UK is a group made up of a partnership of Government, charitable trusts and employers.  They aim to raise the achievement and engagement of young people with STEM subjects.

What is the STEM initiative at All Saints’?

The initiative aims to support the UK STEM vision by:

  • Raising, even further, the engagement and enjoyment of our children in these subjects across all age ranges
  • Enabling children to begin to see how the skills and knowledge they gain in one STEM subject can be transferred to the other STEM subjects
  • Further developing our existing involvement in British Science Week
  • Providing the opportunity for all our KS1 and KS2 children to gain the national CREST awards run by the British Science Association (see useful links section)
  • Finding innovative ways to incorporate technology across the curriculum
  • Empowering children through the Digital Leaders scheme to support each other in learning to use different digital technologies and software in their learning (see the Digital Leaders section under pupil pages for more information)
  • Increasing our usage of relevant resources/training provided by national STEM partners

How do we enrich our STEM curriculum?

We provide a range of additional opportunities beyond the curriculum and are developing these further.  Examples include:

  • Opportunities for children who are enthusiastic about technology to apply to become a Digital Leader in their class.  They then undertake training session to expand their own knowledge of and skill in using technology.  They can then use this to support and encourage their peers.
  • All KS1 and KS2 children are involved in the national CREST awards
  • All children take part in British Science Week activities (for 2018 this will be during the week of 12th March).
  • In 2018 we will be holding a school engineering challenge to celebrate The National Year of Engineering in 2018.  Children from 4 to 11 will work together to solve the mystery challenge.
